Overnight Socceroo winger Awer Mabil scored an important goal in a 3-1 victory for his Turkish club Kasımpaşa S.K as they moved further up the Turkish league table.

The 26-year-old Australian produced an outrageous finish as his shot curled right into the top right corner from a freak angle to give Kasimpasa S.K the lead 26 minutes in.

The beautiful goal from the winger rounded out what was a complete performance in a great win for his Turkish club overnight and Mabil now has three goal contributions in his last three games for Kasımpaşa S.K.

Mabil and Kasımpaşa S.K. are next in action on Saturday evening as they take on Yeni Malatyaspor who are currently last in the Turkish Super League, with kick-off set for 9:30pm.

Jackson Irvine’s dream of playing Bundesliga football next season remains, as St Pauli played out a 1-1 stalemate at Dynamo Dresden. It was touted pre-game as a Socceroo match-up between Irvine and compatriot Brandon Borello, with the former starting and finishing the tie while the latter rested as Dresden called on their depth during a tough fixture schedule and fight for league safety.

For St Pauli and Irvine, the second automatic promotion place is still in their hands, with just goal difference separating the league’s leaders Darmstadt, second-placed St Pauli and Werder Bremen, who occupy the league’s play-off position.

The Hamburg outfit’s promotion push will be backed heavily across the globe, with that fanbase now including Socceroo legend Mark Schwarzer who caught up with Irvine last week.

Mainland Europe

Brescia and Fran Karacic remain within striking distance of Serie B’s automatic promotion positions after a brave 1-1 draw away at league leaders Lecce. The 25-year-old started the clash from the substitutes bench before being introduced after half time, with his team desperately holding on to a point. The result leaves Karacic and co. just a point behind the league’s top two, currently placed within a promotion play-off position in 3rd.

To Belgium now, where Socceroos defender Trent Sainsbury featured for all 90 minutes as his club Kortrijk were defeated 2-0 over the weekend at Cercle Brugge.

One side still with a lot to play for in the final month of competition is James Jeggo’s AS Eupen, who recently fell to Zulte Waregem 3-0, away from home. Jeggo played the full 90 for Eupen’s recent clash and will be called upon further in the side’s next three matches, with just a single point required to assure safety for next season.

Mitch Duke tasted defeat for the first time this campaign, despite a promising 90 minute performance during the 3-1 defeat away at Machida Zelvia. His side Fagiano Okayama still sit in a strong position within the J2 League’s play-off promotion position, having now played four matches, recording two victories.

Columbus Crew returned to the summit of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference once again following a narrow 2-1 win against a star-studded Toronto FC side in Ohio. Milos Degenek was involved from the start and shook off an uneasy opening which saw the Crew fall behind after just 15 minutes, before displaying that resolve to wrestle themselves back into the clash and eventually take the lead just after the hour mark.
