After nearly four years of playing in Japan, Vietnamese volleyball star and national captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will go to Turkey for a new chapter in her career.
Ngo Van Dong, general director of Binh Dien Company, Thuy’s management company, said the outside hitter will play for the new club under a 10-month contract. The team’s name and Thuy’s salary have not been revealed.
Thuy, 26, started her career at Vietnamese club Binh Dien Long An. With a height of 1.93 m, Thuy is currently the best outside hitter in Vietnamese volleyball. In 2021, she signed for PFU BlueCats and won many titles in Japan.
Thuy’s contract with BlueCats will expire at the end of April. After that, she will return to play for Long An in the 2024 VTV9-Binh Dien tournament, and then go to Turkey.
“After discussing her development with her family, we decided to let Thuy go to Turkey,” Dong said at a press conference on Thursday.
“Thanh Thuy’s new club is rich in ambition and goodwill. It will be a good environment for Thuy to develop and help Vietnamese volleyball.”
Turkey is considered the number one powerhouse in women’s volleyball. The professional tournament in this country brings together many famous stars such as Tijana Boskovic, Gabi and Zehra Gunes.
