Verheugen: Turkey Is Important For Europe

Verheugen said that, EU would attain a strategic power that would be beyond Europe if it included Turkey. According to Verheugen, in such a case EU would turn into a superpower, which would be able to provide stability not only in its own continent, but also in the whole globe.

Stressing that Turkey should be included in EU, Verheugen said; Turkey should be given a chance. Reasons such as religion and culture remained in the past. Including Turkey, which is an influential country with her Moslem population, in EU will benefit Europeans. It will also prove that democracy, rule of law, human rights, and Western values can be harmonized with Islam.
