Verheugen to go to Cyprus tomorrow for negotiations

LEFKOSA (AA) – The European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen will visit Cyprus on Wednesday prior to Cyprus talks that will start on Thursday.

Verheugen, who will have meetings in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot side, is expected to participate in the first meeting of talks.

An expert delegation from EU Commission will also come to island for the talks. The delegation will take up economic and legal sides of Annan Plan and attend the meetings of technical committees.

Verheugen will be in Ankara on March 8 and 9.

The United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan’s Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, who will participate in talks on behalf of Annan, will come to island today.

After completing his meetings in Brussels today, De Soto and U.N. study group will proceed to Greek Cypriot side.
