Vatican: Pope Slips in and out of Consciousness

In a news conference held earlier today at the Vatican Press Center, Vatican Spokesperson Joaquin Navarro-Valls noted that there has been no change in the serious condition of the pontiff’s health and as of today his consciousness partially worsens.

Navarro-Valls denied claims that the Pope is in a coma. The Spokesperson said that as the Pope is able to open his eyes and is responsive to speech, and therefore it cannot be said that he is in a coma.

Navarro-Valls also added that while confined to his bed, the Pope was nonetheless able to participate in a service held earlier today.

A statement regarding the condition of the Pope’s health is expected to be released later today.
