US Troops Admit and Apologize for Shooting Italian journalist
The statement issued by the Washington administration informed that when the vehicle carrying the journalist approached a military checkpoint in the western part of Bagdat (Baghdad), troops on dutyhad ordered the vehicle to stop. When the driver did not comply with the directive, US soldiers opened fire on the vehicle, aiming to disable the motor.
The US administration announced their regret for the incident that caused the death of an agent, while injuring the journalist.
The White House Spokesperson Scott McClellan in a statement to the press said they are looking forward to seeing Sgrena’s speedy recovery. He also added that American authorities would cooperate in everyway with the Italians to investigate the incident.
