US Settles in Afghanistan, Spending $83 Million for Base Rehabilitation

Air Force Brigadier General Jim Hunt made a statement that up to $83 million would be spent on the Bagram air base, of which the reconstruction and rehabilitation works are now continuing, and includes the Kandahar air space. Hunt noted that the runways, barracks as well as the lighting systems within the bases were to be restored. Hunt informed that 150 US planes and helicopters used 14 air bases located in Afghanistan. He stressed the US’s determination to continue their mission to form a free and democratic society on the behalf of Afghan nation as long as it is necessary.

Afghan leaders have asked the US to remain in the country for some time in order for the 70,000-soldier Afghan army to complete its training, while some US senators who had previously visited the country, suggested that a permanent base be built in Afghanistan.
