US denies Cyprus base accusations

The statement denied that U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell had talked about such a base during a meeting with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat earlier this week.

It also added that the United States has neither the intention nor the desire to establish such bases in Cyprus and called on the media to consult with the U.S. Embassy before making such dubious claims.
