US condemns slaying of Turkish hostage

Washington was quick to condemn the killing of Murat Yuce, whose execution was shown on internet sites linked to radical Islamist groups earlier on Monday.
“It shows the true nature of the terrorists holding this hostage and it shows what they’re about: they’re not about progress, they’re not about working for the Iraqi people,” deputy State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told a press briefing.
Yuce was executed by masked gunmen after reading out a statement calling on Turkish companies to end their operations in Iraq. He had been working for a catering company in Iraq as a cleaner.
Ereli said that the wave of killings of hostages by terrorists was aimed at stopping the process of restoring stability, reconstruction and democracy in Iraq.
