United Front For a Solution in Cyprus

Erdogan evaluated the meeting which was held in the Istanbul Governor’s Office by saying, ‘we are in full solidarity and cooperation for a permanent solution in Cyprus.’

Denktas said, ‘we do not have differences of opinion. I am very pleased by that.’

In the meeting, political developments in TRNC and the final phase of the government formation were discussed. Erdogan briefed Denktas about the research conducted by Turkey regarding the process. Saying, ‘I was delighted to exchange views with Denktas,’ Erdogan stated that the common goal is to reach a just and permanent solution on the Island within the context of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s goodwill mission and the realities of the Island.

Erdogan emphasized that Turkey will be in close cooperation and contact with Denktas and the TRNC government on the issue.

Denktas stated that the Cyprus issue is a national case and emphasized that the ‘goal is permanent peace, permanent reconciliation, not repeating the past, the prosperity of our nation and their lives is entrusted to us.’ He said this cooperation will continue and this will be for the benefit of the nation.

Meanwhile, the Republican Turk Party (CTP) and the Democrat Party (DP) in TRNC, yesterday, reached a consensus to form the government. In the cabinet, six CTP deputies and four DP deputies will be on duty. After submitting the Cabinet Council list to the President today, the new government will start its studies. CTP Leader, Mehmet Ali Talat, revealed that the coalition aims at reaching a solution by May 1 within the framework of the Annan plan.
