UN: Up to 50,000 Dead in Darfur

Egeland told French news agency Agency France Press (AFP) that dysentery is now the leading cause of death among the refugees fleeing from Darfur.

Egeland said that even though there is no certain information about the death toll, anywhere from 30-50,000 of the one million people in Darfur could be dead.

Egeland confirmed that nearly $100 million of aid will be dispatched to the region; however, he points out that the UN is seeking more resources so that it can send an additional $110 million in aid to Sudan.
