UN Report Praises Turkish Efforts For the First Time

Turkish Cypriots have received positive mention for the first time in a UN Secretary General report, said Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister, Mehmet Ali Talat. He asked the European Union (EU) to take action in order to repeal the restrictions. Talat stated that their real target was solution and they did not lose sight of that goal. Meanwhile, Papadopoulos claimed that the report contained many mistakes.

TRNC President, Rauf Denktas, implied that he found the report ‘negative’ in his first evaluation, but the report, described by the EU Commission as ‘coherent,’ was evaluated positively by Turkish diplomatic sources.

Elsewhere, Greece claimed that the report, which contained some points that were unclear, were not in accordance with the opinions of each side.
