UN decision removes "legitimation" discussions
Being in Malaysia for Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) meetings, Gul said that they examined UN’s last Iraq decision and it was a positive step for normalizing of Iraq.
Gul stated that the resolutian foreeseen a date for elections and a role was given to UN as it happened in Gulf War in 1991.
He reminded that the resolution called countries who would like to give support to Iraq and all were the things that Turkey insisted since beginning.
Gul said that for the first time Turkey gave a date for Irag and Security Council also determined one year for contribution to country.
Gul underlined that Iraq’s territorial integrity and political importance was emphasized and the attack on Turkish Embassy in Iraq was condemned. He added that Turkey wouldn’t be occupient in Iraq and it would be there to save Iraqi people.
About Iraqi Governing Council member and a Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani’s statement that opposing to Turkish troops, Gul said that Foreign Ministry’s archives were full of thanks letters of these Kurdish groups.
