‘UK offers Pristine Formula for Ercan Airport’
The US and the UK have been negotiating the reopening of Ercan Airport with the ICAO over the last three months. The ICAO said that reopening Ercan Airport would cause security problems in the region’s FIR line.
Talat will offer Maras for Ercan
According to the newspaper, Simerini, the British spoke with several airline companies about possible flights to Ercan. Presently, nothing is possible. The journal claims that no insurance company will provide coverage to planes traveling to Ercan Airport.
Simerini also focused on the status of Gazimagusa (Famagusta) Port, and reported that the English are searching for a rejuvenation formula.
The Greek side will submit a detailed offer to reopen the Port. This offer foresees the transfer of its operational rights to the European Commission in return for Maras’ opening to the old Greek inhabitants. Fileleftheros newspaper reported that the Northern Cyprus Prime Minister, Talat, would follow the policy of "Returning Maras for Ercan Airport."
