U.S. Wants Turkish Liquid Fuel In Exchange For Iraqi Oil

Gul pointed out the importance of the Habur border gate, stating that, should the program be implemented, "20-30,000 tankers will be involved in Turkey. Therefore, this greatly increases the importance of the Habur gate. Of course, the opening of a second gate is also a matter being considered."

The Habur border gate was closed at the beginning of the Iraq war, stopping all trade through the region. U.S. forces began shipping liquid fuel from Turkey into Iraq in May.
