Two soldiers were killed and three wounded in PKK attack in southern Turkey

The soldiers were part of a patrol that was attacked last night, first with the remote detonation of a mine and then to fire long-range rifles.
Five soldiers were injured and were taken to Sirnak Military Hospital, where two of whom died.
PPK attackers fled to the mountains when the members of the patrol returned fire.
Turkish media reported that the army launched a punitive operation with artillery fire and air support that was launched this morning on the Turkish side of the mountains Kato.
The PKK, considered a terrorist by the United States and the European Union, has intensified in recent months its attacks on civilians and security forces in Turkey.
Since last weekend, 12 teachers have been abducted in the restive southeast.
The PKK took up arms against the Turkish state in 1984 to achieve autonomy of the 12 million Kurds living in Turkey. Since then, an estimated 45,000 people have died in the undeclared war between the PKK and Ankara’s forces.
