Turkomans to Occupy 15 Seats on Musul City Council

The meeting’s participants decided to hold elections on May 15 to choose a governor for Mosul. Declaring their candidacy were four Arabs — Ganim al-Basso, a general from the opposition “Iraq Army” organized against Saddam Hussein; Mosul Security Administrator Tarik Mutat; Engineer Zekeriya Siddik; and Dr. Hudeyfa Eddiveci.

Halil Dostki, who attended the meeting representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), said they were satisfied with the meeting and the decisions taken. Pointing out that they weren’t participating in the city’s administration because the majority in Mosul was Arab, Dostki said: “We aren’t participating in the city’s administration; however, we gained representative rights in the city council. In the near future, after the administration undertakes its duties, we will suggest to the Americans that the deputy governor be Kurdish.”
