Türkiye Surpasses 12,000 EV Charging Points, Pioneering ‘Green Charging Stations’

In a significant stride towards clean energy, Türkiye has bolstered its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, surpassing 12,000 charging points spread across over 5,600 stations nationwide. This data, obtained from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), signals a steady growth in line with the global shift towards green energy and underscores Türkiye’s commitment to reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.

Growth of EV Charging Points

As of December 25, Türkiye’s 81 provinces were equipped with 8,492 slow charging AC points and 3,575 fast charging DC points. This expansion in infrastructure not only dovetails with the global trend of transitioning away from gasoline and diesel vehicles but also anticipates a surge in demand for EVs. Electric vehicles are hailed for their lower energy costs, efficiency, low maintenance, comfort, and advancements towards autonomous driving.

Leading Cities in EV Infrastructure

The sprawling metropolis of Istanbul leads the charge with 1,308 charging stations, followed by Ankara and Antalya with 542 and 422 stations respectively. The burgeoning numbers testify to the mounting demand for EVs and charging stations, and the country’s readiness to meet it.

‘Green Charging Stations’ Initiative

In a bid to champion environmentally friendly practices, EMRA has enacted regulations permitting charging network operators to designate certain stations as ‘green charging stations.’ These stations are unique in that the electricity used is generated from renewable sources. This innovative initiative underscores Türkiye’s commitment to sustainable practices and clean energy.
