Turkish Soldier Killed in Gun Battle with Kurdish Rebels

Reuters, citing governor Ali Cafer Akyuz, reports it was not clear whether any PKK rebels were wounded or killed, and that the military operation is continuing.

The Kurdish rebellion has claimed at least 30,000 lives – mainly Kurds – in more than 15 years of violence. Kurds want a homeland in southeastern Turkey.
