Turkish Ships High on the EU’s Black List
In a statement made by the EU when the Erika I statutes went into effect on July 22, if any of the sea transportation vehicles on the list do not comply with regulations and registers another offence, entry and exit to European ports will be prohibited.
The list consists of three risk groups: middle, high and very high. All 36 Turkish ships were found to be in the very high risk group. Observers in Brussels say that Turkey can increase the security of its sea fleet in a very short time by adhering to EU regulations. If Turkey does not comply, it is warned that Turkish seamanship could suffer serious consequences.
