Turkish School Generates Own Electricity

The project, which cost nearly TL 3 billion, will pay for itself within 1.5 years. The success of the project has prompted Cesme administration officials to seek financial sponsors to support in the installation of similar generating equipment in schools in Alacati and Cesme. The Alacati school, which consists of 12 classrooms and 240 students, was opened by the Izmir Private Administration on November 11, 2002.

School Principal Murat Aydin, an educational administrator for 10 years, said that Ergun Ozakat, the director of the Ege Technology and Success Society had approached him with the idea for a wind-generated electrical system. Aydin explained that the new system had eliminated the constant problem of paying TEDAS power bills.
