Turkish Republis of N. Cyprus Departs for New York

While the meeting between Denktas and government members was continuing, Turkey’s Nicosia Ambassador Hayati Guven briefly interrupted. With files in his hand, the Ambassador made a joint evaluation with President Denktas. Denktas’ advisers, Undersecretary Ergun Olgun and Foreign Ministry Head of Cyprus Office Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan, who had come to the island, also finalized details ahead of the New York visit.

President Denktas also accepted main opposition party National Union Party’s leader Dervis Eroglu. Eroglu said they did not want Denktas to go to New York, stating that going to New York under these circumstances would be akin to de-facto acceptance of Annan’s plan as is and that this was not something good for Cypriot people,.
