Turkish Premier criticises EU Cyprus policy

Speaking in a meeting with Herman De Croo, speaker of the Belgian house of representatives Tuesday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the demand that were being made of Ankara to make concessions towards the Greek Cypriot administration were unfair.
Both Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) had made great efforts to try and resolve the deadlock on the island, with the Turkish Cypriot people voting in favour of reunification of the two states on Cyprus in the April 24 referendum, Erdogan said. Despite the Greek Cypriot side overwhelmingly rejecting reunification, the EU had accepted it as a member and then continued to pressure Turkey, he added.
“I find it hard to understand and hard to explain,” the Prime Minister said.
