Turkish PM meets with leaders of EU countries

BRUSSELS (AA) – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with heads of state and government of European Union (EU) member and candidate countries in Brussels.

Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Gul are attending the spring meeting of the European Council in Brussels.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi after the dinner. Two prime ministers took up Cyprus issue and Turkey-EU relations in their meeting.

Erdogan will hold a press conference on Friday after meeting with French President Jacques Chirac.

Prime Minister Erdogan will later attend a working session following his press conference.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan left for Brussels for the spring meeting of European Council late on Wednesday while Gul came to Brussels from Buergenstock, Switzerland, where he went on Tuesday for the quartet conference taking place among Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Greek Cypriot side, Turkey and Greece to find a fair and lasting solution to Cyprus issue till May 1 on the basis of United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan’s plan.
