Turkish military concerned about Northern Iraq

The General Staff said that it was following with care and concern developments in the region. There have been increasing incidents of attacks against the Turkomen community, which has ethnic ties to Turks, by Northern Iraqi Kurds.
The statement also said that the terrorist organisation the PKK/Congra-Gel was making use of Turkey’s bid to gain membership of the European Union to obtain more rights. The PKK/Congra-Gel was trying to carry out terrorist attacks and destroy the peaceful atmosphere in the east and south east of Turkey, the statement said. It cited as an example of this clashes in the province of Siirt Thursday which left three members of the security forces dead. Four members of the terrorist group were also killed in the fighting.
The General Staff statement said that the terrorist organisation was trying to prove its existence while in the process of dissolution.
