Turkish FM Gul: Not all US requests considered

While acknowledging that Washington had made some requests, including for greater access to the Incirlik airbase in southern Turkey, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül said no requests had been made for other Turkish bases or ports.

However, some of the requests put by Washington fell outside of the framework of the Turkish-US Defence and Economic Co-operation Agreement (DECA), Gül said while speaking on private television station NTV Thursday. These requests had not received a positive response from Ankara, Gül added.
“Everything goes on in parallel to the Defence Agreement in place since 1980,” Gül said. “They have several proposals. If these proposals are within framework of the agreement, they are accepted.” he said.
