Turkish FM Gul confident about EU green light

"This decision will be a decision to start negotiations without delay and there won’t be any conditions," Anatolia news agency quoted him as saying. He was speaking on the sidelines of U.N. General Assembly meetings in New York,

In the EU Commission’s report to be issued on October 6 and include a recommendation to EU leaders whether to open entry talks with Turkey or not, "You will see that the report will come out (with wording) as Turkey deserves. It will be decided on December 17 to start the negotiations" Gul said.

Gul’s remarks followed Prime Minister Erdogan’s visit to Brussels last week where he met EU Commissioner Gunter Verheugen and resolved a row that broke out over the postponement of the parliamentary debates concerning the Turkish Penal Code reforms sparked by Erdogan’s insistance on criminalizing adultery.

The foreign minister praised Erdogan and his government’s efforts on the path to EU membership. Referring to the recent debate on government’s attempt to criminalize adultery, "We will not jeopardize anything after so much work," said Gul.
