Turkish Cypriots vote ‘yes’ while Greek Cypriots vote ‘no’

LEFKOSA/GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE (AA) – While almost 61 percent of Turkish Cypriots voted "in favor" of the resolution plan presented by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, 80 percent of Greek Cypriots voted "against" it in Saturday’s simultaneous referenda.

According to unofficial results of polls at ballot-boxes, 61 percent of Turkish Cypriots voted "yes" while 39 percent of them voted "no" in Saturday’s referendum.

Greek Cypriot and Greek television channels reported that in their polls at ballot-boxes, they forecast a "no" vote of up to 78 percent while between 22-24 percent of Greek Cypriots voted "yes" in Saturday’s referendum.

Turkish Cypriots voted in favor of Annan’s plan by up to 61 percent while 39 percent of them voted against, according to polls at ballot boxes in Saturday’s referendum in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Higher Electoral Board will start giving information on the results by issuing bulletins as of 7 p.m. Turkish local time.
