Turkey’s state oil company TPAO has purchased two more drilling ships rom Noraway’s Eldorado Drilling to be used in deep-sea natural gas exploration, according to HaberDenizde.com, a Turkish website specializing in maritime issues.
The 2014-built West Draco and her sister 2015-built West Dorado drilling ships in the fleet of Norwegian Eldorado Drilling will now serve with four other ships in TPAO’s fleet. It was reported that the new acquisitions ships will be used in Libya and Mersin, southern Turkey.
Eldorado sold them for a loss to the Turkish state oil and gas company for a reported price of 245 million dollars per rig, while both rigs will likely require another 80 million dollars each to bring them into service.
Turkey already has four floating drilling vessels named Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni and Abdulhamid Han.
