Turkey’s Iranian Relations Unaffected by US
The US embassy in Ankara conveyed their "sensitivities," which are primarily over the transfer of Iranian gas to Europe via Turkey, three days before Erdogan’s visit. The US currently imposes an embargo on companies who conduct business with Iran in excess of $20 million.
During a press conference in Tehran, Erdogan answered questions regarding US "sensitivities." He added: "Before we came to power, we promised that we would develop relations with our neighbors and included this in our action plan. We did not make any discrimination among our neighbors. The regional peace will be set up in this way. Just like how all the worlds’ countries develop relations with their neighbors, Turkey will also develop its relations with its neighbors. It is determined about this."
After reaching a consensus on commercial relations, regional matters, and the transport of Iranian gas to Europe via Turkey, the Tehran administration vowed to fight the PKK.
