Turkey’s help is necessary for Kyrgyzstan reconstruction
"I appreciate the support of the Turkish government and people to democratic reforms as well as to development of market economy in Kyrgyzstan. I think Turkey’s assistance to reconstruction is very important. Without the assistance prosperity and economic growth seem impossible."
Akayev went on to say that he wants to help Kyrgyzstan return to stability by helping the presidency elections to be held with some transparency. He drew on the parliamentary elections as an example of fair, open and honest democratically instrumented cooperation in his country and called for the presidential elections to be applied in the same way.
Akayev said that he had plans to step down October 30, 2005. "I want to return to my country to assist my country and the officials, not to extend the period of my mission." He also gave a reason for the coup, " Those who lost in parliamentary elections realized that they could not win presidential elections that would be held on October 30th. Opposition leaders were unsuccessful. To this end, they preferred a coup."
The ousted leader added that he would return home should the necessary security measures be put in place to further his cause of handing over presidency and help in the rehabilitation of his motherland.
