Turkey’s consumer price inflation speeds up to 61% y/y in March


ANKARA (Turkey), April 4 (SeeNews) – Turkey’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 61.1% year-on-year in March, after increasing by an annual 54.4% in February, the country’s statistical office said on Monday.

On a monthly comparison basis, Turkey’s consumer prices added 5.5% in March, following a 4.8% increase in February, TurkStat said in a statement.

The year-on-year rise in consumer prices in March was mainly driven by higher prices of transportation services which went up 99.1%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages followed with an increase of 70.3% while household goods added 69.3%.

Prices of communication services rose the least on an annual comparison basis in the month under review – by 15.1%, TurkStat also said.
