Turkey welcomes Middle East peace summit result

The outcome of the summit between Israel’s Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine held in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh was a step towards lasting peace, the statement said.
“Turkey sincerely wishes the sides to be loyal to their commitments in Sharm el-Sheikh, to protect the positive milieu, and to head towards a peace target which is clearly set in Article No. 1397 of UN Security Council,” read the statement.
“Israel and Palestine made commitments to end violence and they declared to be loyal on vision of two independent states living side by side. This strengthened hopes that pain and destruction in the region, continuing for the past four years, will end.”
The statement said that Turkey was committed to supporting and contributing to any and all efforts to establish a permanent peace in the Middle East.
