Turkey round-up: Besiktas turn on style

Gençlerbirligi take advantage
With Galatasaray SK’s match with Denizlispor postponed due to heavy snow, Gençlerbirligi SK moved up to second with a 3-1 victory at Istanbulspor AS. Gençlerbirligi took the early initiative when Souleymane Youla scored the first on eight minutes but Cenk Isler equalised with a 17th-minute penalty. But the visitors were back ahead just after the hour through Filip Daems and Mustafa Gürsel confirmed the points in the final minute.

No joy for Fenerbahçe
Fenerbahçe SK now trail Besiktas by eleven points after being held 0-0 by MKE Ankaragücü. Still without a win since coach Oguz Çetin’s appointment, Fenerbahçe were never on top thanks to Ankaragücü’s pressing and their ambitious display.

Victoria penalty
Gaziantepspor consolidated fifth place with a 3-0 win against Malatyaspor. New signing Colombian Victoria gave his side the lead with his 48th-minute penalty, with Ibrahim Toraman and Erdal Günes scoring the others on 71 and 73 minutes.

Ten men win
Altay GK won the Izmir derby by beating Göztepe 2-0 despite being reduced to ten men late on, while Bursaspor came from behind to beat fellow strugglers Samsunspor 2-1 and lowly Elazigspor held Trabzonspor 1-1.
