Turkey Requests Russia Revise Cyprus Policy
Turkish Ambassador to Moscow, Kurtulus Taskent, held a press briefing on Wednesday, where he voiced Turkey’s wish that Russia formulate a new Cyprus policy. Taskent insisted that Russia should consider the new realities on the Island while taking into account the multidimensional political and economic relations between Turkey and Russia. He pointed out that Turkey purchased US$ 5.3 billion worth of Russian goods last year; at the same time he implied that Russia should seriously reevaluate its economic relations with the Greek Cypriots.
When asked about the embargo on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Taskent said that the other countries should follow the example of the U.S. and European Union and begin easing up on TRNC.
