Turkey recalls ambassador from Israel
Turkey has been angered by Tel Aviv’s recent clamp down against the Palestinians, especially the military operations in the Gaza Strip where hundreds of Palestinian homes were destroyed and dozens killed in clashes with the Israeli Armed Forces.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoan has led Turkish criticism of Israel’s actions, saying last week that they amounted to state terrorism.
Erdoan has also said that the policies of the government of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon were a major impediment to the Middle East peace process. However, he made clear that Turkey was not at odds with the Israeli people, just the policies of the country’s government.
