Turkey: PM warns AKP deputies on Iraq
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said Turkey should send soldiers to the region within the scope of rebuilding of Iraq.
Domestic and foreign developments were discussed during Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Central Executive Board meeting.
Speaking to board members, Erdogan said request of the United States regarded with sending soldiers to Iraq could be discussed in a possible meeting which "summit of the state" will hold, noting that the decision that would be taken in the summit would be taken up in Council of Ministers. He said Council of Ministers may call the Parliament for an extraordinary meeting in September. Erdogan said, "with a great possibility, Parliament may convene in September. Be ready. Only one decision should be issued from the summit of the state, and we should convey this to the nation."
Erdogan said nobody should make statements on the issue.
Foreign Minister Gul in his part said Turkey should send soldiers to the region and get assignment in rebuilding of Iraq.
Gul said in case a decision is issued to send soldiers, Turkish soldiers would be assigned in middle region of Iraq, and that "finance" and "expert" issues had never been an issue of discussion between Turkey and the United States as it had been alleged.
Gul stressed that in case such a thing takes place, a joint decision would be taken.
