Turkey-Pakistan To Enhance Defence Cooperation

He said this during a call on Senior Federal Minister and Minister for Defence, Rao Sikandar Iqbal, here on Tuesday. The Turkish Naval Chief said that they were exploring more possibilities to enhance the existing relations. He also appreciated the professional capabilities and cooperation of Pakistan Navy.

The Minister said on the occasion that Pakistan attached special significance to its relations with Turkey and it was imperative to enhance and strengthen defence and economic cooperation between the two countries. The Minister also stressed upon joint venture in the field of defence production between Pakistan and Turkey. He also briefed the Turkish Naval Chief about the successful Defence Exhibition IDEAS-2004, recently held in Karachi, and thanked the Government of Turkey for active participation in the exhibition.

Regarding his visit to Turkey, the Minister told the Turkish Naval Chief that he had standing invitation from the Turkish Defence Minister and he would visit to Turkey shortly. Pakistan’s role in fighting against terrorism also came under discussion during the meeting. The Minister informed the visiting dignitary about various measures taken by Pakistan in curbing and eliminating this menace. Both sides underscored the need for closer cooperation between the two countries in defence and economic fields.
