Turkey Objects to Bush’s NATO in Iraq Vision

An article in the Washington Post reports that Bush said, "I do not expect that NATO will send more soldiers. It is an unrealistic expectation."

The article goes on to say, "Bush’s hope to include NATO in the issue by sending soldiers and delaying the debt was refused at different points by France, Germany and Turkey."

French President Jacques Chirac, who objects to NATO’s presence in Iraq, pointed out that NATO is a western organization and its activities in Iraq could lead to conflicts between the ‘Christian West’ and the ‘Muslim East’.

Iraqi Interim President Gazi Al-Yaver on the other hand said that the new Iraqi government would gladly welcome NATO’s intervention in Iraq.
