Turkey: New Consumer Law Being Ignored

Published in the Official Gazette in May, the law has given a three-month transitional period for renewal of the contracts. Consumer associations evaluated the situation as: The law is in effect. Old contracts have been given to the customers. Why have not these establishments prepared the new contracts for three months?

TL 50 million fine for any illegal contract.

Protection for Consumer and Competition General Directorate has taken related establishments starting with banks into close watch. General Director Ozcan Pektas stated that the directorate would start to examine all signed contracts since the law was put into effect. In case any illegal contract is identified a TL 50 million fine will be charged to the firm.
