Turkey, Iran trade exchanges up

Khorram made the remark in a ceremony attended by his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim to sign a Memorandum Of Understanding on transportation cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries’ joint transportation commission discussed avenues to settle current problems in this regard, he said.

Iran and Turkey agreed to provide 24-hour services to customs border activities in order to facilitate transportation and transfer of goods and passengers, he added.

He said 45 per cent of goods transported between the two countries in transit are carried out by trains and the two sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in manufacturing locomotives and wagons.

The Iranian minister pointed to Iran’s special status in the north-south corridor and said Turkey called for Iran’s support to become a member of the corridor.

He assessed the launching of railway along Almaty, Tehran and Istanbul route as important in expansion of Iran-Turkey cooperation and voiced Iran’s readiness to participate in constructing railway around the Van lake in cooperation with Turkey.

Khorram expressed hope the investor of second phase of Imam Khomeini International Airport, who is also the investor of Turkey’s Istanbul Airport, would complete the project within the next two years.
