Turkey, Greece and TRNC positive on Annan’s statement
NEW YORK (AA) – Turkey, Greece and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have positive stance toward U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan’s statement to overcome the deadlock in the ongoing Cyprus talks in New York, sources said on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Greek Cypriot side has not assumed a clear attitude yet.
Diplomatic sources that declined to be identified earlier said that Turkey might find Annan’s statement positive and the statement did not include the EU element asked by Greece.
Meanwhile, TRNC President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos are expected to come together with Annan at 5.30 p.m. Turkish local time.
