Turkey: FM dismisses threat of PKK
Speaking to reporters in the Austrian capital of Vienna, where he is holding talks with senior Austrian officials, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül said Monday’s announcement by the PKK/KADEK was the result of its own internal dissent and disorganisation in the face of the government’s measures to counter the group.
“The terror group’s shouting in recent days is the result of panic stemming from the partial amnesty law,” the Foreign Minister said.
More than 2,100 former members of terrorist groups active in Turkey have applied to take advantage of new legislation passed by the parliament allowing for reduced sentences for convicted militants and a conditional pardon for those who have not taken part in terrorist activities.
