Turkey – Factors To Watch on March 26

Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.

The lira USDTRY traded at 32.1725 against the U.S. dollar at 0143 GMT, unchanged from its close of 31.9900 on Monday.

The main BIST 100 share index XU100 closed 0.90% lower at 9,029.38 points on Monday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian equities climbed on Tuesday but could not break this month’s highs as mixed messages from U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers left doubts hanging over the timing of interest rate cuts. The risk of Japan intervening to prevent further falls in the yen put a little pressure on the dollar, however it rose against the yuan on speculation that China may tolerate a weaker currency.

ERDOGAN SCHEDULE

President Tayyip Erdogan will hold rallies in the central provinces of Aksaray (1030 GMT) and Yozgat (1330 GMT) ahead of Sunday’s nationwide municipal elections.

MAIN OPPOSITION

Ozgur Ozel, leader of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), will hold election rallies in the northwestern province of Balikesir (1000 GMT).

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will visit AK Party election coordination centres in Malazgirt, Bulanik and Mus in eastern Turkey (1000 GMT).

IYI PARTY

Meral Aksener, leader of the opposition IYI Party will carry out visits in the northwestern province of Edirne (1140 GMT).

MOSCOW ATTACKERS

The gunmen from Tajikistan who carried out a deadly attack in Moscow last week briefly entered Turkey to renew their Russian residence permits, but their radicalisation did not happen there, a Turkish security official told Reuters on Monday.

PUBLIC OFFERING

IC Enterra Renewable Energy will hold a public offering meeting to discuss its investments and developments in the renewable energy sector. (0700 GMT)
