Turkey determined to fight genocide allegations

Speaking after the meeting, Erdoğan said the government and the CHP would work together on the issue and present their studies jointly to Parliament.

He said: “Turkey is ready to resolve the issue. It has opened its state archives. Everybody can come and study them.”

Baykal said the Armenian genocide allegation began after 1975 and was politically motivated. He said they would apply to the British Parliament to clear the Blue Book matter.

The CHP initiative first aims to dispute the allegations made in the infamous “Blue Book” written by historian Arnold Joseph Toynbee and diplomat James Bryce.

The next step in the CHP plan is to create an atmosphere to allow European historians to cooperate with their Turkish counterparts to investigate the Armenian allegations.

Baykal’s briefing was aimed to attract government support for its initiative. It was reported that Parliamentary Speaker Bülent Arınç’s support will also be sought by the CHP.
