Turkey could lose its regional power status
Basaran held a press conference in Istanbul to promote ASIAD, established on April 23, 2003 and to discuss the economic situation in the region. Stating ASIAD’s interest in developing global relations, particularly with Eurasian countries, Basaran said, "The association considers this an untouched region where commercial relations should be strengthened as soon as possible."
Basaran said Turkey should form a regional power by building ties with its neighbors, in order to maintain stable relations with the US, which is not a regional country but the world’s biggest military and economic power.
