Turkey-Cameroon : Strengthening Trade Ties
The head of the delegation, Turkish Secretary of State for External Trade, Tuncer Kayalar, within this framework, was received in audience yesterday afternoon at the Star Building by Prime Minister, Peter Mafany Musonge. This was followed by the signing of a protocol agreement at the Ministry of Industrial and Commercial Development to specify the areas of cooperation between Cameroon and Turkey. These include: agriculture, industry, transport and energy.
Talking to pressmen immediately after the audience, Mr Kayalar, said the two countries were prepared to enhance and promote the relations as far as trade is concerned. The trade protocol, he said, will help establish a foreign trade council between the two countries. "On the Turkish side of the council, we will have a Turkish Exporters’ Assembly", he said. Mr Kayalar assured that once this has been done, the business communities of both countries will come together so that they can discuss in further detail how this agreement could be put into concrete activity.
Present trade links between Cameroon and Turkey remains quite active. Major products exported to Turkey include: wood, rubber, crude oil and aluminium. In the same vein, products imported from Turkey include: cement, yeast, tyres, bakery equipment and fertilisers.
