Turkey, Bulgaria to open new border gate
Yildirim met on Tuesday with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Transportation and Communications Minister Nicolai Vasilev, who came to Turkey to attend the 20th Term Meeting of Turkey-Bulgaria Mixed Transportation Commission.
Yildirim said the sides would work to update agreements involving navigation and aviation during negotiations between the two delegations and that the agreements would be signed today.
Even though there is no serious problem in highway, railway and airline transportation, there is some congestion at border gates, he noted, adding that Turkey and Bulgaria have taken steps to eliminate the problems. "Efforts on both sides to open up another border gate are proceeding at a rapid pace," said Yildirim.
Stating that the trade volume between the two countries amounted to $1.3 billion and that this level was insufficient and not equally favorable to Turkish interests, Yildirim noted that transportation and communications services should be better managed in order to improve the amount of trade.
The new border gate is planned to be opened at Hamzakoy.
