Glamour was not lacking in Cannes, where Mipcom 2025 celebrated its second of four days, with a huge influence from Turkish content, once again a protagonist in the international market.
Continuing with the meetings and special events of the first day, Turkish distributors raised the bar once again with another day of major activations, presenting their new releases, highlighting the success of their productions, and delighting attendees with the presence of actors who have become celebrities around the world.
OGM Universe had a special day, with activities at the beginning and end of this Tuesday. In the morning, the company held an official presentation at the Le Majestic Hotel to highlight, with distinguished guests, three of its major dramas: Six of Us, The Fall of the King, and Reborn. And in the evening, it invited friends and colleagues to a special cocktail party to celebrate the success of its catalog. “Thank you for believing in us and sharing this journey. Here’s to many years of impactful stories, partnerships, and collaborations. The sky’s the limit,” said Ekin Koyuncu, Director of Distribution and Partnerships at OGM Universe.
After announcing the successful debut of La Isla: Desafío extremo on Telemundo’s screen, Acunmedya—the format’s producers—also hosted a cocktail party to celebrate this and other major achievements in its production catalog this year.
And because there’s always room for relaxation, Kanal D International held its own closing party, with special guests and the presence of the stars of its hit drama, Sins and Roses. The actors also visited the company’s spectacular stand, located in R8 of the Palais des Festivals, where more than twenty executives work.
In the vein of successful dramas, Mistco made its way to Cannes to continue expanding the international presence of Melek: A Mother’s Struggle, which has already conquered several territories in Latin America and other key markets. “We are very happy because Melek’s success continues in Latin America,” said María Espino, Sales Director at Mistco. “The second season will premiere soon in Puerto Rico. It has already premiered in US Hispanic. And we are very happy because it continues to grow in every territory it has been in and conquers.”
Another major distributor of Turkish dramas, Eccho Rights, entered the market this year with a new addition: the spectacular drama Terra Rossa (Bereketli Topraklar). Produced by Sürec Film, the series will premiere this fall on Show TV in Turkey. “We’re confident it’s going to be a huge hit. It features Engin Akyürek, a well-known actor in the region, and we hope that with him leading the cast, we’ll reach many clients,” said Barbora Suster, Eccho Rights’ Director of Sales and Acquisitions for Latin America and Iberia.
After its major event in Venice on Sunday and its presentations on Monday, Global Agency continues to showcase its dramas A Mother’s Oath and Dynasty of Love, two of the company’s biggest international offerings. “We’re at Mipcom with a lot of energy and very happy because we’re presenting new series and formats,” commented Iván Sánchez, Global Agency’s Director of Sales for Latin America.
Mediahub is present at Cannes with a highlight: Bitter Justice, which arrives after a very promising premiere and is ready to meet new partners in the international market. “Bitter Justice is our new production for this year,” stated Elif Turna, Sales and Business Development Manager at Mediahub. “We have received many positive reviews. We have already signed some contracts and are working on more.”
For Calinos Entertainment, meanwhile, Mipcom 2025 serves a dual purpose: introducing its new Sales Director, Onur Sozener, and unveiling its revamped product portfolio, which includes Lies After Lies, a Turkish adaptation of the hit Korean format of the same name, currently produced by Medyapim. “The original format is Korean and is now being adapted in Turkey with a high-quality production,” stated Sozener.
Latin America is also making its presence felt
As a prelude to the new edition of MIP Cancun, which will take place from November 18 to 21, leading executives from the Hispanic audiovisual industry gathered during the second day of MIPcom, modeled after the Mexico event, holding roundtable discussions to share their perspectives on the market, production strategies, and collaboration opportunities.
The participants were Carlos Quintanilla (SPT), Eugenia Velez (RCN Television), Javier Goldschmied (TVN), Michelle Wasserman (Banijay Rights), Andres Mendoza (WBD), Ignacio Barrera Tyszka (Mas Ros Media), Pablo Ghiglione (Globo), Catalina Porto (TMS), Maria Rua Aguete (Omdia), and Andres May (Mercado Libre).
For its part, the Chilean delegation present in Cannes held its own cocktail party to promote international collaboration between producers and directors.
One of the largest representatives of the Hispanic market, TV Azteca Internacional, arrived at the latest edition of Mipcom with a lineup of new releases on all fronts. “This year we’re bringing fiction, entertainment, documentaries, sports, Fast Channels… a little bit of everything,” summarized Jesica Stescobich, Director of Distribution and Strategic Alliances. The group presented the dramas Cautiva por amor, Lotería del crímen, Un día para vivir, and Dra Lucía; the successful format La Granja VIP; and announced the launch of a Fast Channel dedicated to Exatlón, an Acunmedya format.
Space for other genres
Beyond dramas and reality shows, the event provided a space to highlight other productions such as feature films, animation, and documentaries. In this regard, Electric Entertainment, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, is preparing several new projects: “We have the most ambitious slate of projects in our history, a major feature film in the works, and we just signed an agreement with Content Partners to finance new productions. The best is yet to come,” revealed its CEO, Dean Devlin.
ORF Enterprise continues to promote its nature documentaries, a genre that is experiencing increasing demand in Latin America. “I think audience interest is shifting toward nature programs. We’ve had several buyers requesting these programs,” explained Phoebe Clarke, Sales Executive at ORF Enterprise.
Carlos Garde, CEO of Onza Distribution, shared the impressive results of the premiere of Gluten Free, the production company’s new comedy, which recently debuted on Televisión Española to record numbers. “We premiered it last week in prime time on Televisión Española, and it was the best premiere for a comedy series in the last ten years,” Garde stated. The executive explained that the series surpassed its second-best offering by more than 70% in its time slot, consolidating its audience as a phenomenon.
The success wasn’t limited to streaming: just days after its television debut, the series landed on Amazon Prime Video, where it quickly became the platform’s number one title in Spain, not only within the series category, but among all available productions.
Meanwhile, Sandra Lanc, Head of Business Development at Animotion Media Group, presented Shooting Stars, a new animated series that combines action, friendship, and sports, inspired by the global growth of women’s soccer. “Women’s soccer is experiencing an impressive boom, and we wanted to reflect that spirit in a fun and empowering story,” said the executive.
Announcements are never lacking
In terms of partnerships and content sales, the day’s announcements included The Mediapro Studio’s sales of its series Los Cinco and Celeste, and the documentary Real Madrid: Cómo no te voy a querer; the new distribution alliance between Banijay Asia and Talpa Studios; and multiple Cineflix sales for its historical documentaries and adventure reality shows.
Mipcom 2025 will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, October 15, with its third full day, during which the official attendance figures for this edition will be announced.
