Turk court rejects arrest of 405 soldiers over rape
A Turkish court on Thursday rejected a lawyer’s request for the arrest of 405 soldiers in connection with the repeated rape of a woman 10
years ago while she was in custody in southeast Turkey.
Lawyer Meral Danis said her client had been raped by members of a 405-strong military unit stationed in southeast Turkey in 1993-94, near Mardin where the woman was detained.
Danis said her client, now living in Germany, could not say exactly how many men had raped her. It was not clear why she had been in custody. The court decided against ordering any arrests and instead asked the military authorities to provide a list of all soldiers who were on duty in the period when the woman said she was raped.
